The shame we feel for failing in some way is bad enough and can keep us stuck. See here for my earlier article on how to get unstuck from shame. However, projected shame – the shame that rightfully belong to someone else which we unwittingly carry, can be even more crushing. This can come about due to negative childhood experiences. The repercussions can be intense and can keep us stuck for many many years.
The good news is that you can live a life free of borrowed shame. Is it hard? Yes, without a doubt. It is impossible? No. It isn’t impossible. It is possible to step out of the shadows and live a full rich life, free of borrowed shame.
